Grandma Hi, Jane! Did you have a good time at school today?
Jane Yes, Grandma. What did you do today?
Grandma I was at the Women’s Institute.
Jane What’s that for?
Grandma It gives rural women the chance to work on improving things that are important to us.
Jane Like what?
Grandma Well, like safe driving, reducing speed limits, inspection of nursing homes, “best before” dates on perishable food, and one you see every day – safety bars in front of school buses.
Jane Did the Women’s Institute just start?
Grandma This is our 125th anniversary. The son of our founder, Adelaide Hoodless, died from drinking raw milk. She would be very happy that raw milk can no longer be sold.
Jane That’s great. When can I join?
