- Colpoy’s Bay Community Coming Together
It’s April and the WISH Clue #2 has arrived! Our Colpoy’s MIST (Marg, Ingrid, Sharon & Terry) team are frenetically texting and emailing. Who has Lego? When can we meet? What should we create? Back and forth we went and of course there was the Easter Holiday to work around. Finally, we landed upon Tuesday, April 19th @ 3:00pm as our “meeting of our creative minds” session. Finding Lego proved a little trickier than we thought as we are all well past having little ones about, but luckily, we were able to borrow a bucket. Hooray!
Tuesday the 19th arrived and we all gathered at the CBWI Hall. Pondering our theme, we kept coming back to the idea that our hall and Women’s Institute is all about community. Covid-19 restrictions have mostly lifted, hence gatherings at the hall have resumed. This month we started hosting weekly Coffee Socials, while at the same time a new parent & toddler gathering congregate in the upper level of the hall. At long last we held a postponed, and very well attended, concert. Contemplating the hall activities gave us ideas as we dug into the Lego bucket and let our creative juices flow!
After some diligent Lego play our creation was completed. When you observe the picture of our Lego creation you are seeing these landmarks:
As you drive along on Bruce road 9 and gaze at the shores of Colpoy’s Bay you’ll see, to your right, the Colpoy’s Bay pier. The Colpoy’s Bay Women’s Institute had made a much-needed donation to its recent repair. Since the pier is well used, our Lego people can be seen gazing out onto the beautiful azure water. Also seen is a paddle boarder, snorkeler, and swimmer nearby. Walk up the road a short distance and you’ll find the Colpoy’s Bay Women’s Institute. On the front lawn the array of flowers and plants represents our annual plant sale which happens each May. There are a few bikes on the left side as people often bike or walk to the hall. As you go around to the side there is one of our members in her wheelchair waiting for the accessibility elevator. Look to the back and you’ll see people on the tennis courts getting some exercise and enjoying the day. If you peek inside the hall, you’ll see people milling about. Could they have rented the hall for a meeting or family gathering? Maybe it’s Thursday and they’re here for Coffee Social? What a treasure to have this accessible hall tucked in the tiny village of Colpoy’s! Certainly, the community have given us feedback about how much they enjoy the many activities at the hall and appreciate its existence.
We are happy and proud of our Colpoy’s Bay Women’s Institute and feel grateful to be part of this community.
