In 1863, in the hotel of William Murray, the Post Office was named "Kintore Post Office," after the Honorable George Alexander‘s birthplace in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In 1867 the Post Office moved to "Pea Straw Corners," which then changed names to Kintore. "In 1903, over twenty ladies of the Kintore Community met in the Methodist church to form a Women‘s Institute." "The first president of this group was Mrs. Switzer and Agnes Hendersonâ€"Chalmers held the position of secretary. At the outbreak of war in 1914 and 1939, the Institute ceased holding its regular meetings and met every Friday afternoon at the Masonic Hall to support the war effort through the Canadian Red Cross. They quilted, knitted bandages and socks, and packed care packages for the local boys overseas. In the past years, Kintore‘s Women‘s Institute has been involved in various activities including donations to the CNIB, Foster Children Plan and UNICEF; community betterment by the addition of books to the Kintore Public Library and sponsoring the 4H Homemaking Clubs of Kintore. Their assistance has greatly aided and encouraged several community affairs through the years."
