| It is a very great pleasure, and an honor as well, to have been given ' the privilege of introducing this wonderful little book with a brief word of mine. A history of the Women‘s Institutes of Renfrew South is someâ€" f thing that has been discussed and planned for a long, long time, and to | many of us, particularly older members, it is like a dream come true to see it now in process of publication. The work of the Women‘s Institutes has been close to my heart for many years. Since first becoming a member, in 1927, I have had the privilege of acting as president and secretary, for more than one term, of our own branch at Braeside. Later, I was happy to serve as both presâ€" ident and secretary of the district. As the years have passed, the work seems to have grown more and more necessary and important. Now, with the celebration of our fiftieth anniversary, the achievements of the years gone by come vividly to mind, as well as thoughts of those who worked so faithfully and well to build a strong and active organization. We have come a long way during the past fifty years, and I only wish at this time that all those women who were pioneer members of the Renfrew South Women‘s Institutes could know the great things they have accomplished, not only in this district and in this country, but throughout the whole wide world. Now with the golden jubilee passed into history and our members stepping forth into a new era, I should like to repeat the beautiful message once given to our Commonwealth by a beloved King, His Maâ€" jesty George VI: "And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: ‘Give me a light, that I may tread safely into the unknown!‘ | And he replied: . ‘Go out into the darkness, and put your hand into the Hand of God; That shall be to you better than light, and safer than the known way.‘" May the next fifty years still find our Renfrew South Women‘s Inâ€" stitutes a strong and dedicated organization.
