Vol- 1 No. 1' Fehruary,.1997 CENTENNIAL NEWS gm 100 Years Happy Birthday W.l. - 100 years, Areas across Ontario have been actively preparing for the 100th Birthday of the Women’s Institute on February 19, 1997. W planned the competition to find a CENTENNIAL LOGO. This Logo, designed by Mrs. Evelyn kaers of Avonmore, is now seen on articles across the Province. Thanks to LQNDQNAREA. a beautiful CENTENNIAL PLATE has been produced. The artist was Vera M. . Knowles of Langton. W had a tremendous response to the QUILT Competition, and, many hours of work later, the Quilts were hung at the Centennial Prelude BBQ on June 14, 1995. Winner of the Quilt Competition was Henny Veldhuizen .of Elora. THC rw-‘mi‘r‘râ€" a 2 En“. â€"mâ€" was a great success with approximately 4,000 members for the BBQ. Thank you to HAMILTON AREA for the Hospitality tent. 'IheCENTENNIAL SONG written, and ‘ composed, by Marie Harris of Erin, was beautifully presented by COCHRANE; W W approves the use of the Centennial Logo on CENTENNIAL MEMENTOES. Branches are reminded to send reports of their Centennial projects to SIMCQE AREA who are recording the CENTENNIALHIS'DORY. Mrs. Joan Chalmers of Richmond Hill, and going strong was the well-deserved winner of the TEA-TOWEL competition organized by W. What a turn out for the BLUE JAY Gameil CENTRALAREA certainly managed to surprise the Skydome personnel! W has brought us the WOMEN’S INSTITUTE ROSE grown by Sheridan Nurseries. On February 19, 100 members will be CENTENNIAL AWARD winners. WA arranged the selection process. Every Branch has received a FASHION SHOW BOOKLET. This booklet was produced WW AREA. Branches are encouraged to use the booklet in 1997, and, also, to obtain , additional copies from Northern Area to donate to their local library and school. The BRANCH PROGRAM for February 19, 1997 has been developed by W. FEB.19,1997 A great day for the Women’s Institute, and a proud and exciting time for all Women’s Institute members. Invite your friends and neighbours to join you at your Institute Meeting that day as members across Ontario-share the same Agenda. If we sing the Centennial Song loud enough, the chorus may be heard by ~ all from Trenton to Sault Ste Marie!!! .15 THANKYOU Hundreds of hours were volunteered by the members of Area Committees.
