Our story: In 1911 our Institute branch was the first one in the Renfrew South District, and we have been going strong ever since! We have 26 members ranging from 30 to 90 years of age. At every meeting we have a short educational program, to learn and grow from. We work hard to incorporate the principles of the Mary Stewart Collect in everything we do, which is evident throughout the genuine kindness and respect members show one another. Historically, Burnstown W.I is proud to have introduced hot lunches at schools in the 1930s and help a local church hook up to running water. Today, we care for our community by cleaning a stretch of highway twice a year and make financial contributions to different community groups.
Description: The tree was painted with inks and acrylic glaze medium. Batik fabrics were used for the leaves. The leaves with the sig sag edge are our life members. The members names were machine sewed on the fabric. Buttons were sewn and glued on.
The sign is a Tim Holts die cut and our “home and Country” logo was printed, cut out and glued on. The groups name was stamped on with old block lettering from a printing press with sable brown ink.
The word tags are historical trivia of our Institute. The frame is made by a members father from wood taken from the walls of a 100 year old dance hall. - Date de l'original
