CENTENARY PARTY Members of Eves Corner w.I. and guests arriving for the Centenary Celebration Party on Tuesday, 5th August, were greeted by a large green and white banner announcing "w.I. CENTENARY, 1897 - 1997" which hung between the trees outside the Church Meeting Room. It was a colourful scene as the partygoers strolled in the garden in costumes of 1897, wearing some wonderful hats, a bustle or two abnd one pale green satin dress with a long train. One visitor bore a striking resemblance to Queen Victoria. The secretary's husband, Mike Wood, was the official photographer for the evening, and manycither cameras were clicking busily. The meal was served in the hall and the President, Elizabeth Wright,-welcomed members and guests from other institutes in the Viking Group. To commemmorate the formation of the first W.I. at Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada, by Adelaide Hoodless in 1897, the menu included some appropriate dishes. Guests could start with Tourtiere Pie, a speciality of Quebec, Salmon Rice Loaf or Jellied Chicken from Columbian recipes, accompanied by various salads, including Buffalo Bean Salad. Niagara Apple Cheese Betty, and Eastern Township Maple Sugar Pie were among the sweets. The tables were laid with green and white cloths and napkins, with attractive floral arrangements and jugs of fruit punch. V6! Albums were on display recording activities oféi'Corner W.I. through the years, and a special one compiled by Ann Green, for this year'sevents, which included pictures and other items of interest sent over from Stoney Creek. To complete the evening Elaine Barker from Colchester played the guitar and entertained with songs and monologues. The President thanked the committee, caterers and everyone who had helped to make the party such a memorable occasion.
