TJULY 1997 Scottish \«Lmen's Rural lnsfimt ' Home" as..." v.31 The Invasion of Stoney Creek -- by Jess Egerton THE day dawned bright as the ladies from West Lothian left home about 5am. We took off for Canada with four ladies from P&K and four from Dunbartonshire. Six husbands came with us as photographers and baggage carriers -- and anything else these good souls could do was done with zeal. We arrived in Toronto early morning and checked in at our downtown hotel. After lunch we all did our own thing ---- mostly sleeping -- until the welcome party in the evening. Next day we had a sight- seeing tour of Toronto, visit- ing the 4th Court Building (Town Hall), and the Peace Garden, where a small part of the pavilion will not be completed until there is peace in the world. The mural on the side of the Sun newspaper building was next. It was so long I had to take five photographs to get it all in. The painting was terrific and started with the Indians signing the Treaty. A trip up the CN Tower was a must -- though I took a bit of persuasion, the views were spectacular. On to Ohio and four days with the Amish people, who made us so welcome. It was Shirley Wallace outside Erland and Janet Lee's like taking a Step back in farmhouse in Stoney Creek. time. We went to Behalt and The Scots party enjoying the Canadian sunshine. 22
