If you have never been a W.I. member before you may think that we just have monthly meetings with Speakers and are keen on Crafi and Cookery. Once you have joined you will find out that there are so many more activities that the W1. has to Offer. Eve's Corner W1. started in 1969 and since then the members have enjoyed such a variety of interests that it is difficult to list them all. 0 The programme of Speakers aims to provide something different each month, from fashion and travel to current afiairs: in fact topics to suit all tastes. Our Christmas Meeting usually takes the form of a party or a Social Evening. 0 A Competition is held at each meeting. Details are on your program. As well as the winners, each entry is awarded four points and cup is presented every year for the member with most points. The Sales table at the meetings welcomes items for sale, with the Institute retaining 5% of the price as commission. 0 Folloviing suggestions from members, classes have been arranged in Local History, Crochet, Wholefood Cookery, Upholstery, Tap Dancing and many other subjects. Perhaps you have a particular interest you would like to pursue! c We have a keen Darts Team, a Playreading Group and a Choir. New recruits are always welcome for these activities. 0 A Garden Party for Pensioners of the village is arranged each summer in a member's garden, and in spring and autumn we join with five other local Institutes in the area for a Group Meeting hosted by each Institute in turn. A Group Carol Service is also rotated through these Institutes, which is called the Viking Group. a, AWe support various charities by holding fund raising events. Collections have .2 included - Toilet articles for Bosnia, Spectacles for the Third World, Tea and 7 Cofl'ee for Chernobyl, and members have knitted Teddies for Tragedies, with bags » Q to hold them, for children in war zones or disaster areas. . ¢ 0 'o" i is given each year for a member, chosen by ballot, to attend a course at Denman College in Oxfordshire. This is a very worthwhile experience.
