The Luncheon was both a celebration of the founding of the Women's Institutes and a fund-raiser for the District. From June 1 - August 31, Fieldcote Memorial Park and Museum presented a display "For Home and County" 100 years of the Women's Institute. Carluke helped Copetown organize the display. Floats were entered in the Ancaster Heritage Days, Beverly 200th anniversary and Dundas Cactus Festival. W.I. members on float: Laura Williams, Shirley Cranston, Katie Hunter (student), Janette Jardine, Betty Stewart and Edna Ward. } flflgnnett It was with great joy we planned special events to celebrate 100 years of the Women's Institute. Canada Day was planned to be a big day in our community of Lyndert We entered a float in the parade, decorated with our blue and gold colours and signs depicting the W.I. Members rode on the float dressed in period costumes. Our community appreciated our effort. In February we joined with two other Institutes to celebrate. We purchased at Centennial rose to plant in the garden of a chronically ill man in our community. We placed a history book in our local Library. Seven of our members attended the celebrations in Hamilton c'lflfluuntaherg On Sept. 16, 1997 Mountsberg Women's Institute met at Mounstsberg Hall for a special occasion. Twenty-three members and nineteen guests gather for a celebration of the W.I. Centennial anniversary Members were eager to commemorate the founding of the Institute in a way to show our pride in belonging We decided to donate a bench to the little park and playgromd behind the conunuuity hall where people could sit and enjoy the peace and beauty of the country side. President Maxg Kranyics presented the bench with commemorative plaque to Mayor McMeekin who gmciously accepted on behalf of the town Following the ceremony which took place outside the hall, the group went in doors to a pot luck extravaganm. Somehow the motto for our meeting best expressed the mood: "Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success".
