There are numerous mature trees including flowering crabs, evergreens, hardwoods and shrubs around a cairn Several needed pruning or removed Our local Garden Club is Planning to plant several trees in the spring to replace some of the ones removed The park is maintained by the Ministry of Transportation who keep the grass cut, provide garbage cans and portable toilets in the summer. We are unsure of the maintenance in the future but hopefully it will continue. We are proud of our efforts. We also entered a special float in the local Santa Claus Parade and had two store- front window displays on our main street for a month depicting the history and work of W.I. Erected by the Women's Institutes of Brant County in 1937. } @3er South (Birth-id The Burford Fair held in October of 1996 had a special exhrbit planned by our District President, Carol Force, detailing the History of Women's Institutes in our District To honour the 100th Anniversary and Adelaide Headless as a Brantford native, our District along with Brant North sponsored the planting of a special flower bed in Lorne Park, Brantford. These gardens were an unoflicial stop during the bus tours of Convention'97 and many favourable comments were received. A Women's Institute Rose was donated to the rose bed in Lome Park and is marked by a plaque for all to enjoy in the coming years. Brant North and Brant South District, together administer a Bursary Fund which awards two local students annually. In 1997, a Special Anniversary Bursary was awarded on the regular criteria. as well as the applicant's knowledge of the history of W.I. We enjayed celebrating 100 years of W.I. gfl'alklam} On Feb. 19, 1997 a Anniversary birthday party was held at the home of Evelyn Roberts. Desserts and cake were served to members and friends. The afiemoon was spent by playing games and conversing Betty Knill Past President * 'alurtaleg Tansly Women's Institute met on Feb. 19, 1997 at the Bur-ford GolfLinks Clubhouse to celebrate the Women's Institute's 100'-h Anniversary. Invitations were extended to all other service clubs and our Township officials. Members set up a display about the W.I. and A,C.W.Wi Tweedsmuir history books were viewed by all.
