Ebenezer On Thursday, November 13th, Ebenezer Women's Institute held a tea to celebrate the 100th Anniversary. We invited all former Institute members and neighbours. Thirty-four ladies signed the guest book including 2 clurrter members. . We had a short programme, sang the Institute song and we enjoyed a lunch of tea biscuits, johnny cake, whipped cream, ginger bread and Birthday Cake. Gloularm guests celebrated 100 Years of Women's Institute as we followed the programme prepared for all W.I.'s. On Aug 13, 1997, 27 people celebrated the 100th Anniversary and also the 70th Anniversary of Coulson W.I. at the home of Mary Garbutt. The names of 90 W1. members 1927 to 1997 were readas we remembered all the good deeds done over the years. We enjoyed saxophone and organ selections and a lively sing-song. Guests visited "Rebecca's Log House" to view the History of Coulson and the Institute, in collages of pictures; quilts, the late Mrs James Woodrow's Scrap Books and furnishings of the past in the Log House. A birthday cake was enjoyed by all, Earratt-(flreightrm Jan-att-Creigton Women's Institute celebrated with a community get together at a Salad and Ham Supper on August 14th at Jarratt Hall. Mayor Ian Beard presented the members with a certificate honouring the work of the Women's Institute over the many years and servoce [oms were presented to 4 members. Earth gKifier North River Women's Institute held their 100th Anniversary meeting on February 19, 1997. All members came in period costume and the meeting followed the prescribed plan. As part of our programme, discussions were held for ideas for a community wide party. On July 1, 1997, our Branch sponsored a Kids Day on Canada Day in Coldwater. Our . members entertained dozens of children Old fashioned games were held with Loonies as prizes. Everyone enjoyed popsicles, hot dogs and pop. The day proved so popular that we are committed in the future "KIDS Day" in Coldwater afiaaeg Vasey Women's Institute joined their neighbours in Simcoe Centre District to enjoy the programme on February 19, 1997. All branches participated in the festivities and brought food for the luncheon Stature gnarl] Btntrtrt 100th Anniversity - February 19, 1997 All six branches of South Simcoe District Women's Institute met at Tec-We-Gwill Hall, Newton Robinson to celebrate the first meeting of the Women's Institute District President, Maureen Couture welcomed over one hundred members and special guests, from regional and provincial govemments and representatives from Historical Societies, etc. The special guests congratulated the WI. on their achievements and presented South District with mementoes which included four prints of historical buildings in Alliston. Maureen lit the candle in honour of the Women's Institute. Mary Orr and Jean Gordon led in singing the Centennial song Everyone was invited to view the Tweedsrrruir History Books, the Centennial display, historical pictures, display of antique kitchen utensils, etc. The branches of South District are: Bond Head, Churchill, Fisher's Corners, Tec--We-Gwill, Tottenham and Cookstown Earth 3512212! . Bond Head Women's Institute met at the South Simcoe Museum in Alliston on June 18, 1997. The Curator gave a short speech about the various displays, then invited the members to view them. One display of "100 Years of WI" was set up by South Simcoe Women's Institute; and one other was of Sir Frederick Banting and his work President Leila Lloyd presided for the meeting, The Roll Call was "Name the Pattern of the Oldest Quilt you Own". A book in memory of Maude Jackson will be put in the library. A donation was sent to the Headquarters' fund. The Tweedsmuir History committee conducted the remainder of the meeting.
