An old fashioned lunch reminiscent of 100 years gBrmtrmm The Duntroon Women's Institute of Simcoe West District met on Tuesday, February 13, 1997 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Women's Institute. We were also celebrating the 95th Anniversary of Duntroon branch, which was formed on February 19, 1902. We used the proposed menu for our luncheon followed by the 100th Anniversary agenda. Our members took turns reading sections of the programme. The meeting ended with our own Anniversary cake and tea. gHHapIe flailing Ourbranch celebrated the 100th Anniver sary of the Women's Institute in Stayner, on February 19, 1997, with Zion Jubilee, Mrs. Alfred Wattl, and Stayner, taking part in the programme. In the summer we visited Simcoe County Museum to see the Women's Institute exhibit on display there. Maple Valley Community Centre, a former schoolhouse, will celebrate its 100th Anniversary in August, 1998. A special celebration is being planned with old pictures on display, The first class in the school was held September, 1898. Our branch celebrates its eighty-third Anniversary in 1997 and has two members who are relatives of its first officers, Muriel Lewis and Marion Priddle. We are proud to have one sixty year member, Hazel Scott. grain afinfirell The New Lowell Women's Institute celebrated the 100th Anniversary on February 19, 1997, at the Sunnidale Community Centre at 1:00 pm. Our nine members werepresent along with a senior member who is now in her nineties, Jean McQuay, but no longerableto attend our regular meetings. Some of our members were in period costumes which made a nice topic of conversation and for the photo session. A history book entitled "For Home and Country" has been donatedto the local library by the Stayner branch which was organized in 1912. A special Women's Institute rose has been ordered to plant at the library, but not yet received due to a short supply. The afternoon programme followed a planned format. An interesting display of antiques and oil lamps decorated the room. Louise Wanless of New Flos branch and Leda Archer of Crossland were presented with corsages by their presidents as winners of the WI Centennial Awards.
