Guests were greeted at the door by Margaret Werdon, ' District First-vice President, and Marion Neville, President, Shetland branch. Following the ' Institute Grace about thirty ladies sat down to a bountiful pot-luck luncheon. Fifty year plus members were honoured. Seven of the eight branches were represented and brought entertainment. Some of which were a skit "How to make a "sick call", readings "The Legend of the Poinsettia" "What is Christmas" "Barrel of Money". Ileen MacNally, PRO. for the district set up a display at the Wallaceburg Museum of memorabilia she has collected, as a member over forty-four years. New Blue Water Bridge at Santia, to unveil a plank place on a support pillar. On July 17, 1997 members of Lambton North, Central and South Districts met at the New Blue Water Bridge at Samia, to unveil a plaque place on a support pillar. Dignitaries from the city and the Bridge Authority were present, also Provincial President, Marg Harris and Provincial P.R.O., Mary Janes. A previous plaque on the first span of the bridge was unveiled by Institute members in 1938, It recognizes the 126 years of peace between Canada and the United States. Work. Adelaide Hoodless (Sylvia Morwood) met guests, along with Erland Lee(Peggy Lehrbass) Members in early 1900 dress sat around a dining room table lit with oil lamps and decorated with antiques. We followed the suggested programme. It was announced that Nola Tait, a member, had received one of the special recognition awards presented during the 100 year celebration She received a bouquet of flowers and a certificate from the branch. Appropriate lunch of g'ngerbread with real whipped cream and oatmeal cookies was served. On Feb. 19th, we joined several other institutes hosted by Sunny Brooke for an evening of fellowship and celebration In November, Aughriru celebrated its 90th anniversary by inviting guests to a party to finish up a special year. L-R - Donna Clements, Jane van de Recke, "Adelaide Hoodless and Erland Lee ignite: Mrs. John terHorst hosted the Becher Women's Institute February 19, 1997 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary. President, Marilyn Grant chaired the meeting wearing her great grandmother's cape, which was over 100 years old The planned program was followed, with members taking part. Dien ter Horst presented silver Maple Leaf pins to the twenty-five year members. Mrs. Lillian Grant, 21 member for 70 years and who has held various offices in branch and district was presented with a bouquet of red roses and a photo album with captions, of the highlights of her life. The branch remembered Norma Grifiith who had passed away recently, with a moment of silence. She was a member of the planning committee for this meeting. A memorial donation will be made to the Erland Lee Home in memory of the three members who passed away in 1997.
