Members, past members and guests were welcomed The branch was notified that member, Laurine McIntosh was named a Centennial Award winner. It was presented to her at the Area Convention. In June, Bessie Thompson was a FWIC Branch Citizenship Award winner. Motherwell branch participated in the District's Centennial Celebration dinner and programme. Our branch volunteered at the Quilt Sllow and Barbecue at Milton in 1995. Several members took in the Blue Jay W.I. Day at the Sky Dome in 1996. fiehringflille Sebringville W.I. members attended the opening event at Milton, the church service in Woodham, the 100th anniversary banquet of Perth South and had the February meeting as outlined. Our special project to commemorate the 100th anniversary was to plant a tree at the Sebringville Community Centre. fit. Hand's To celebrate the 100th anniversary, 3 special luncheon was held in the Downie Twp Hall on Feb. 19, 1997. Many members came in centennial costume. Old coil oil lamps, candles and flowers were used for decoration The meeting followed the set format and candle lighting, centennial and familiar songs andlunch Accomplishments of Women's Institute and of St Paul's branch were read and discussed Humorous readings, a contest and quiz were enjoyed by 15 members and 3 guests. Other centennial activities included a Fashion Show in the Community at Downie Central School and making a special banner honouring Strarford Perth Archives. Organized a group of 40 members and friends to fly to Manitoba to help after the Red River flood in May of 1997. flirktrm Kirkton, Glen Gowrie and Staffa branches met Feb. 19, 1997, at the Kirkton- Woodham Community Center for their 100th Anniversary celebration. What a great time we had, as we followed the proposed program. Our attendance was about 60. We invited former members to celebrate with us and they seemed to enjoy it too. A sing-song, skit and the reading of our first meeting was part of our programme. The Roll Call was sincere and enjoyable, hearing about difficult and good times of W.I. members, A collection was taken for the Headquarters Fund We served mufi'rns, biscuits, jam and beverage as in days gone by. It was a gala evening with a banquet meal, speaker and entertainment In June we celebrated our own 45th anniversary along with the 100th by taking our meeting into the Ritz Villa We remembered our seniors and recognized our active members with years of service pins. In June five members went to Hamilton to celebrate. Several history books, collector plates and roses were purchased. Crafts were made and donated to help with the celebration. Staffer Stafl'a, Glen Gowrie, Fullanon joined Kirkton Irlstitute in the Kirkton Woodham Community Centre to celebrate the 100"1 Anniversary on April 9th. The branch programme and music, which we received was used through out the meeting. Kaye Smale, President of Staff W.I., gave the history saying it was founded in July 13, 1903, also all the many things we achieved through the years. Roberta Templeman, Staff, sent a programme and music to a lady in New Zealand, so they could enjoy it on Feb. 19th Claudette Elliott, Staffa, sang in the choir for the 100th anniversary, held in Kirkton United Church, on April 27, 1997.
