Calabogie setting for 68th district WI annual Calabogie was the setting for the 68th district annual South Renfrew W] meeting and 105 women enjoyed a well organized day. Hostesses for the May 13 meeting were members of the Calabogie and Glasgow WI. Mrs Eva Mitchell presided over the morning session with registration beginning at 8:30 am. An address of welcome was given by Calabogie and replied to by South Horton ladies. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and business arising from this meeting discussed. Reports were given by the president, secretary treasurer and included the, auditors report. Mrs Olive Watt reported on the Waterloo Conference. Following a morning cof- fee break, an In Memoriam service conducted by Mrs Susie MacMillan and Mrs Shirley Stewart paid tribute to the following members who died during the past year. Mrs Gladys Armsden of Arnprior WI; Mrs Hazel Gould and Mrs Eva Fraser of Bonnechere Valley WI; Mrs D A Gillies of Braeside WI; Mrs Hilda Levi, Mrs Alice Shaw, Mrs Isabella Levi of Clay Bank WI; Mrs Irene Carmichael of Dewars WI; Mrs Hilda Best, Miss Mary McNee of Goshen WI; Mrs Janey Burton of Horton North WI; Mrs Beryl Rintoul of White Lake WI and Mrs Edith Church of Calabogie WI. Miss Jessie Smith gave a report for the public rela- tions committee and Mrs Susan Humphries was the final speaker prior to lunch. Following a delicious lunch Mrs Olive Watt presidâ€" ed over the afternoon meeting. Guest speaker was Joan Daly of ARC Industries and she spoke and showed slides on the work of the clients. Many new ideas are being tried at ARC and the work is not only beneficial to the clients but an asset to the communitv. Mrs Daly was presented with a gift sum of money to be used at ARC. Standing committees gave reports on the years work with some chairwomen reporting 100 per cent attendance. Mrs Hilda Martin led a sing song and with everyone singing along for a few minutes from the meeting. Roll coll Roll call was answered by each delegate picking up con- ienor reports, exchanging names and telling briefly of Blâ€"The Mercury. Renfrew,0ntariuâ€"June 3. 1981 MUSIC EXAMINATIONS George McElroy will be in Retifrew from June 16 to 18 to conduct Royal Conservatory Music examinations. Canadian born McElroy has been principal of the Scarborough Branch of the Royal conservatory of Music since 1966 and a member of the board of examiners sinL‘e [965. He joined the piano faculty of the conservatory in 1959 and after that, the organ faculty as well. He was organist and choirmaster of Wilmar Heights United Church for six and one half years and sang for two seasons in the Mendelsshon choir under Elmer lseler. He has ad~ judicated festivals in Ontario, Nova Scotia and New- foundland and has conducted piano workshops in Toronto and other centres. GLASGOW ANNIVERSARY SUPPER The anniversary Supper at Glasgow United Church will be held [O'mgm June 3 at 5 Pm in -,he church basement. $4.50 for adults and $2.50 for children 6 - 12. CANADA WEEK FIREWORKS past years work within their institute. From reports all branches were very active. Arnprior reported slides shown of a very informative nature and Bonnechere Valley reported more pro- gress with their Pinnacle Park. Picnic tables are placâ€" ed for summer visitors and the grounds are looked after by members and their husbands. A curators tea was held by Braeside ladies as well as work at the hospital. Burnstown canvassed the community to reimburse the Memorial Fund and a plaque placed on the Madawaska River site. Clay Bank ladies were very busy catering and recorded seven life members. Castleford provided subscriptions for local schools and held their annual dinner. Dewars gave a donation to the Sick Children‘s hospital and gave donations to the Arnprior Hospital and Nurs- ing home. , Calabogie ladies held a card party with donations going toward the CNIB and held a luncheon. Goshen assisted at a Tweedsmuir tea and held card parties and made two quilts as well as presenting life memberships. North Horton held a neighborhood night with the ladies of the community at- tending. Rosebank revised ladies their Tweedsmuir history up- dating and compiling two books. . Glasgow ladies presented a skit about the work of the in- stitute and what it stands for. Balsam Hill ladies are compiling a local history book. Combermere institute advertised for local history and were able to update their Tweedsmuir history. Lochwinnoch held a dance and a discussion on family affairs. Pine Grove gave a dona- tion to the Arnprior nursing home and a trophy to a local school and were instrumental . in the renaming of several roads in the area. Two were presented Stewartville branch. White Lake ladies had a very successful get ac~ quainth party inviting all the new ladies of the com- munity to attend. life memberships at the Resolutions Several resolutions were discussed with the following being forwarded: Not to change the name of Dominon Day to Canada Day. Food additives to be listed on all articles of food. All ingredients and com- ponents to be listed on labels of generic products. Widely updated material to be distributed to ensure proper nutrition education. Upcoming project Mrs B V Bedore approach- ed the meeting with the idea of raising enough money to furnish a room at the Arn- prior nursing home. After much discussion it was decid- ed that this would be a district project and each In- stitute would try and raise $125.00.
