Sharing Our Heritage HORTON SOUTH: The lumber business has been an important part of our history so it was natural that this Institute should choose to do a tree so using many colours ofprint we have an appliquéd tree. LOCI-lWINNOCH: A Scottish piper clad in Scottish plaid, playing the bagpipes, has always been typical this community and is a bright spot in the centre ofthc banner. PINE GROVE: The message is clear on the block, with several pine trees clearly outlined on the block, and artistic old English printing. ROSEBANK: W.I. members were responsible for erecting the commemorative plaque and wrought iron gate sign at the ROSEBANK cemetery. They also show the former Methodist Church, built in 1846. STEWARTVILLE: This block is inscribed with a replica ofthe Flat Rapids Cemetery Sign and plaque, WHITE LAKE: On the gold 12" block that was sent, a member appliquéd a miniature quilt block in the 9 patch pattern, in blue and gold. Using the blue embroidery floss, in satin stitch, she did the Branch name. The committee is grateful for the quilting done on the banner by Adele McLeod and for the embroidering of the names of the disbanded Institutes by Eunice Richardson. We are proud ofthe banner. Every block is different and shows talent and imagination - a creditable achievement for all. Runl‘rcw South District Women’s Institute Page 4 of27
