Twentyâ€" three cities, towns and townships became one as of January. 1998. Seventeen counsellors and one mayor now make the deci- sions for the ratepayers in six Wards. With such a huge responsibility at hand for such a few individu- als, the public needed to be better informed of the issues and what the candidates views were concerning the new Municipality. Being an organization for "community action." the W1 Branches in the Wards of Kent held an "All Candidates Meeting" last fall to allow the electorate to meet and question the numerous candlâ€" dates vying for so few seats. The candidates were appreciative of this WI effort. as were the 80 to 100 taxpayers who attended each of the meetings. Submitted by Nancy lucia, pro.
