Rylstone WI, Hastings North Rylstone members visited many seniors in their community in December. deliverâ€" ing musical Christmas cards at the same time. They collected toys and canned goods for the Salvation Army to distribute to the needy. The group also collected blankets. candles. matches and food for those hit by the ice storm. One member '5 daughter took the supplies, and many more collected in Belleville. to those in need in the Kingston area. Mugnetowun WI, Parry Sound South This Branch donated a copy of their book, Looking Back with the Magnetawan Women ‘5 Institute. to the local library. Peace WI, Perth North Vola Purcell ot'the Peace Women’s Insti- tute was honoured by the Guelph Area for receivtng the Golden Book of Recogni- tion Award from the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada. This award recog- nized the grassroots member for their continuous major contributions to their own Branch. Marguerite Ramsay and Ella Langt'ord. They said they formed the Branch so they would have something to do while their husbands attended Junior Farmer meetings. Today. they boast a membership of 45. including second gen- eration family members. Bin WI, Middlesex East The Birr Women‘s Institute promoted an essay contest in the London and area schools entitled “Things I Am Grateful For in My Life.“ This Branch felt that writing an essay on this topic was one way children could be positive about their lives. The contest is open to students from Grades 4 through 8. Niagara District WI This District celebrated “Founders Day" by holding aPotIuck Luncheon. followed by the video “Indebted to the Past - Committed to the Future." In support of FWIOS partnership with the Pharmaceu‘ tical Manufacturers Association of Canada (PMAC). a local Shopper's Drugâ€" rnart Pharmacist spoke on the proper use of medication. A display of WI accomâ€" plishments was on view. The exhibit, produced for the Niagara Heritage Da. celebrations in February. will be at Iocat . , libraries throughout the year.
