Cross Country Calendar Winger-Wuinfleet WI, Niagara This Branch has made organ donation its special project for the year. They recently viewed a video entitled “The Nicholas Ef~ t'ect“ provided by Organ Donation Ontario, followed up with a question and answer session. They also set up a display at the Wuinfleet Fall Fair and distributed infor- mation and organ donor cards to the general public. One member took part in carrying the torch for George Marcello‘s walk across Canada to promote organ do- nations. Brunt District WI The Brant District organized a special dis- play at the Paris Fall Fair of the Life Members of the Women‘s Institute in the District. The display coincided with the theme of the fair 7 “Milestones of the Mil- lennium." Eight Branches submitted their Life and Honourary Life Member lists to be included: Newport, Alford 131. Park Road. Cathcurt‘ St. George. Glen Morris. Moyle. Whiteman's Creek and Tansley. Each Branch also took the opportunity to enter an exhibit entitled “Here Comes the Millennium," which was based on a wedding theme. First place went to White man‘s Creek WI and second place went to Tansley WI. “The President‘s Choice Award for 2000" went to the St. George WI. 14 Home A Country, Winter 2001 Cooper Remington WI, Hastings North Cooper Remington WI President Shirley McCoy presented 25 Year Pins to Fran Dudgeon and Karen Holmes. Both women are active in all WI fundraising and com- munity events, as well as in 4+1 Clubs and various church related activities. Wellington South District Wl Members from this District knitted and crocheted eight and a half dozen finger puppets for children and eight lap afghans for elderly patients at the Guelph General Hospital. Nine Branches in Wellington South contributed to this project, Jean Aubin delivered them to the hospital. Allard 8. Park Road WI, Brant Alford & Park Road WI are proud of mem- ber Ivy Johnson who was awarded the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award. The award recognized Ivy's achievements in municipal, provincial and federal projects. Ivy has been successful in the promotion of many programs concerning junior and senior health care. Currently, she is concentrating on the “Hard-of~Hearing" project, She is widely promoting the universal use of the Hard- of~Hearing symbol, which shows a white ear with a white diagonal line through it on a blue background. Union Street WI, York North Members of the Union Street WI planted a tree at the community centre as part oftheir millennium celebrations. Because yellow was the town‘s chosen colour for the mil- lennium. a Sunburst Locust with its golden yellow leaves was planted. A circle of bricks surrounded the Locust. each with a member’s name attached to it. MP Karen Croft Sloan, MPP Julia Munro, the Mayor of East Gwillimbury James Motton and many North York District members were present at the tree dedication, Curry-0n Wl, Wellington North ‘ y .. ., As their millennium project, Carry-On WI members created "Far Love at Country," a quilt, which they entered In the International Plowing Match. The quilt was placed by sev- eral members and stitched by the quiltars in the group. Their creation hung in the Guilt Tent at the International Plowing Match last fall.
