The National Historic Sites and Monument Board of Canada initiated research of the site in the summer of 2001. The Board accepted the rec- ommendation fordesignation In June 2002. and a presentation of a historical plaque Is expected in 2004. With designation as a National Historic Site. the Museum becomes eligible to apply for funding relating to the restoration of the nearly ZOOâ€"year old structure.
