"I 3 By Elsie Stephenson Good day from Rainbow Country! This summer we had scorching hot weather. Rain was needed for the perennials, lawns and vegetables. Last summer more sun and less rain was needed. On June 20'h l was pleased to attend the presentation of a $42,000 cheque by Norfolk District WI to the Norfolk General Hospital‘s CT Scan Fund. i had the privilege of presenting Certificates of Merit to members of the Calendar Committee, Rose Marie Smith, Marcia Adams, Marian Austin and Ginger Stanley. The members and the committee are to be congratulated on supporting such a worthwhile cause. You can read more about the calendar and how it was created on page 15. Repairs are being made to the Erland Lee (Museum) Home using the monies raised by "Focus High For W1". Wood repairs, electrical work, repairs to the gift shop and work on the north porch have been completed. The east porch is also being repaired. The Provincial Board visited the Lee on August 7'" before the August Board Meeting. A heartfelt thank you to all the members for contributing so generously to the Lee. Our new ROSE Program Manager is Patty Stokes. Herbackground in communications and resource development will be an set to FWIO. HEM“? lflSTl'TUIE illG lGO YEARS i: . .94 1 Silver WaterWl Members celebrate their 100th Anniversary with Elsie. 100‘h anniversary celebrations have oc- curred throughout the province. l was able to attend SilverWater, Coningsby and Forester’s Falls Branches’ celebrations. These celebrations renew enthusiasm and recruit new members. For instance, Silver Water Wl was considering disbandment in April but with a tie vote they decided not to and instead held their 100‘h anniversary. As a result of their celebration on May 7‘h they gained some new members. Congrat- ulations to all the Branches and Districts celebrating their 100‘h anniversaries. The FWIC Annual Board meeting was held from July 8'"â€"11"‘ in St. John's, Newfoundland. In an update of the "FWIC-Into The North” project we learned that the Newfoundland and Labrador government have committed $5,000 to the project and Air Labrador has transported the donated goods from St. John’s to Sheshatshui and Hopedale in Labrador at no cost! Over 30 boxes of goods have been shipped and FWIC has Mark your calendarslThe FWIC received $6,299.25 in cash donations. Phase 1 of the project was to help two communities in Labrador this year and Phase 2 to help a community in another part of Northern Canada. Donations from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are being held for Phase 2. Thank you and congratulations to all the WI members for contributing so generously to this project.
