Area Conventions provide an opportunity for members to renew acquaintances and make new friends. I traveled to Ii Area Conventions this fall and the theme "Sharing Our Heritage†provided a variety of programs. At Thunder Bay the convention delegates enjoyed a banquet and a speaker at the Founders’ Museum. North Central Area had a speaker from Michael’s Bay Historical Society, Michael’s Bay is a ghost town on Manitoulin Island. Simcoe Area had a WWII veteran speak about his overseas experiences. The curator of the Arnprior Museum conducted a mini antique road show at Eastern Area convention. A professor of history at Campbellford showed a picture of a woman playing an accordion and then told the story of this American Finn. I ouid like to thank all of the WI members who so graciously hosted me in their . ‘“ tzt§£féf ~< homes during the Area Conventions. Your thoughtfulness wiil always stay with me. Interest in “FWIC- Into The North Project†has surpassed everyone's expectations. Many groups have reported that they are pleased that this is a hands~on project that focuses on issues and communities within Canada. MonicaVeitwas awardedthe prestigious Woman of Excellence in Agriculture Award at this year’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. It was ï¬tting that the _7 winner was a 47H leader since this year 4-H celebrated its’ 90th anniversary. Monica Veit has been involved with showing and promoting llamas at the RAWF. Congratulations Momca! Learn more about Monica on page 7. At the November Provmclal Board meeting, a Quilt Show report was presented. The Board is consrdering holding another quilt show and investigating other avenues for a smaller scale quilt show. The Auditor presented a draft of FWlO's audited ï¬nancial statements for the year ending September 30, 2005. It was the second year in a row since 1998 that there was no deï¬cit. Copies of the ï¬nal ï¬nancral statements will be forwarded to Branches, Districts and Areas either by e-mail or mail. There’s more Quilt Show coverage on page 9. The Erland Lee (Museum) Home hosted their annual meeting on November 24th. A complete listing of eyents can be found on the back page under the For Your Information heading.
