Over 260 participants, reusable cloth bags generously filled, gorgeous decorations (especially the luxuriant purple and yellow pansies that provided the ‘WOW’ factor) and beautiful weather all contributed to the success of this volunteer planned Conference. The weekend kicked off in style with a unique welcome by Town Crier, Chris Whyman followed by opening remarks from dignitaries. Participants thoroughly enjoyed the displays and competitions as well as the Confederation Tour Trolley around Kingston before the buffet banquet Friday evening. A powerful presentation on climate change set the tone for a weekend of raising awareness. Workshop topics included an introduction to Crazy Patch, Heritage Seeds. Flower Arranging. Recycling, Energy Conservation 8: Climate Change, and much more! In keeping with the “Going Green“ theme, innovative and eco-friendly decorations were used throughout the location. Displays on alternative energy, conservation, and biodegradable cleaning products provided a great backdrop in the conference room and numerous displays on health and family rounded out the venue. Wl Members left the conference energized with a new awareness of environmental issues, many new friends, reacquaintances and a realization that Women‘s institute is as important to each of their communities today as it has been over the past 111 years.
