Standing up at a general meeting and saying “I need three volunteers. Who'd like to help?“ probably won’t do it. You need to approach the potential helper at a time when you can show and explain to her thejob description of the volunteer. Your approach should be enthusiastic, but not pushy. And, if during your recruit- ment of the volunteer. you feel like you're pushing. or if you think that she is feeling uncomfortable because you're coming on too strong. then something is wrong.
