10 RESOLUTION 5 WHEREAS we believe pornography can incite violence against women and children; and WHEREAS television, magazines and movie billboards depict women in degrading roles to which our children and young people are sub- jected; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Federated Women‘s In» stitutes of Ontario urge the Depart- ment of Communications and the At- torney General to pass and enforce laws to prevent the degradation of women and children through por- nography in all forms. RESOLUTION 6 WHEREAS teenage alcoholism is above the national adult average: and there is much peer pressure to drink: and WHEREAS advertisers lure young people by their glamourous. exciting commercials and WHEREAS there has been a large in- crease of campus pubs; and WHEREAS many traffic fatalities and other violent offences in- vestigated by the police are alcohol related: THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Federated Women‘s In- stitutes of Ontario request the On- tario Ministry of Education; Ministry of Health; Department of Consumer & Corporate Affairs and Health & Welfare Canada to step up a cam« paign for tighter controls and public awareness. especially in schools and universities, as to the very harmful ef- fects of alcohol. RESOLUTION 7 WHEREAS the Ministry of Trans- portation and Communications is en- couraging municipalities to reconstruct their road systems and update gravel roads with hardtop stir- faces. but had not set out compulsory legislation for yellow centre line markings on all blacktop surfaces; and WHEREAS during late fall when visibility is restricted it is nearly imâ€" possible to determine the centre line on blacktop surfaces in dark rural areas during foggy conditions; and WHEREAS many accidents could be eliminated by providing centre lines; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Federated Women’s In- stitutes of Ontario request the Minister of Transportation and Comâ€" munications to implement comâ€" pulsory centre line markings on all blacktop surfaces. RESOLUTION 8 I WHEREAS the Province of Ontario is making a great deal of money from the sale of alcoholic beverages by means of both liquor licences and taxes; and WHEREAS as a result of said alcoholic sales, many people become victims of alcoholic addiction. at a great cost and heartache, not only to themselves, their families, friends and communities, but to many innocent victims through broken homes, ace cidents. crime and violence; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Federated Women's In» stitutes of Ontario request the Treasurer ofOntario to enact legisla- tion to the effect that a substantial portion of the profits from liquor licences and taxes on alcoholic beverages be set aside to be used m. plicitly for the care and rehabilitation of alcoholic victims in treatment and deâ€"tox centres throughout the Jim vince of Ontario.
