panel expressed some interesting viewpoints with one member suggesting that women's groups must become more political while still remaining nonpartisan. Buzz groups followed the panel discussion. Senator Martha Beil'ish. the ï¬nal speaker of the confer- ence. directed her audience's attention to “Women's Role Today". The attitudes of society are slowly changing. but we still hear. a full-time housewife described as being someone who doesn't work! She told of an amusing incr- dcnt when she produced her Senate Card for identiï¬cation in an Ottawa store only to have the clerk say. “Oh. your husband is a Senator?" She told of the confused taxi driver who picked up the wrong person because hejust knew that a Senator was a man! But in the end. it is women who must bring about a change in society's attitude towards women. We must be able to speak up on a subject that is important to women. but we must also be able to shut up until we know what we are talking about. We must ï¬rst be informed and then vocal. 7 never in the reverse order. Throughout the conference sing-song breaks were enâ€" joyed and following the banquet the Fun & Frolic items presented by each constituency were an enjoyable highlight. The Conference was expertly organized and efï¬ciently handled. with many opportunities for interaction between women lrorn all or Canada west of the Quebec-Ontario border.
