ROYAL WINTER FAIR Mrs. Wm. G. Miller co-ordinatcd the promotion of W. l. at the Fair. A small rest area was staffed by W. 1. members who were responsible for promoting the work of the Women‘s Institute during the days of the Royal. Approximately 899 persons signed the register from 26 different countries. Mrs. Diamond and Mrs. Barbara Saari attended the Trophy Luncheon when tributes were paid to winners. Mrs. Saari reported that potatoes were highlighted at the Royal and as a result an exhibit created by PEI-New Brunswick and Ontario will be travelling across Canada to draw attention to this major crop produced in Canada. Next year the feature exhibit will highlight Canola (Rape) Seed. Guest speaker. Malcolm McLeod. Minister Depart- ment of Agriculture and Rural Development, New Brunswick enlightened those in attendance to the many changes occurring in the potato industry in New Bruns- wick. A seed potato quality program has been instituted and includes enforcing and monitoring disease control. controlling production practices. improving management and the establishment of Buonocore seed from potato production research.
