This Bridge Was Built By a Pioneer Mother. Pleasant View Branch has for a few years followed the pleasant custom of devoting their June meeting to visits to noteworthy places in their area. This year their visit was to an inter- esting bridge in the Vandeleur Area. This bridge was built by a pioneer mother to span a creek which divided a farm. On one side of the creek was a maple bush and in the maple syrup season the valuable syrup was brought back to the farm home by way of fallen logs over the creek. However, on one trip the precious syrup was spilled acci- dentally into the creek. The mother then de- cided that a permanent bridge must be made. Over the years through her efforts flat lime- stone rocks from various places on the farm Were moved to the site and the bridge was started. Today it stands sixty feet long and wide enough for a team of horSes to cross over. It was so constructed that spring floods have never disturbed it and stands as a memo- rial to the ingenuity and hard work of a courageous pioneer mother.
