AmDng their program features were demon- strations of modern household conveniences such as electric cook ware, vacuum cleaners, electric washers and dryers; the art of making marmalade, the art of wine making, flowers arranged in a kitchen utensil, talks on corsetrv and good foundations, cameras and their proper use. Some are Painting for Beginners, Learning about America, Drama, Fine Sewing, Tailoring Proâ€" cesses, Singing for Pleasure, A Christmas Course, with demonstrations of Christmas cookery, cake icing and decorations. They have some courses where the children can be brought along and are cared for in a nursery for the days of the course, and a special in- vitation is extended to the husbands to attend some of the courses. English Institutes sponsor a huge country market once a year at Olympia, from March 7 to April 3. Immediately one is over, branches begin plans for another. Goods are sent to In» stitute headquarters to be priced. They had over 6,000 jars of preserves, also homemade furniture polish, herbs â€"- dry and fresh, plants, basketry and woodwork articles. Perishable goods are brought in relays overnight to Lon- don. Distant counties send theirs in each weekâ€" end for restocking stalls so everything will be fresh. Institute members were urged to get and study all material available on grants made by the government toward modernizing struc- turally sound old houses, to base water put in and bathrooms and other conveniences. In their report of membership they have 61 County Federations of the National Federaa tion of Women’s Institutes of England and Wales, the Channel Islands and The Isle of Man, giving a grand total of 444,737 members. In Shropshire County they have 8,246 mem- bers. In my pen pal‘s Institute there are over forty members and they have recently cele- brated their fortieth anniversary. I would urge any Institute member to get a pen pa] in some country. It will give great pleasure and satisfaction to be spreading the word of our work here in Ontario and Canada and also learning about other people. But don’t begin a correspondence unless you are gomg to be faithful to it, as our Institute friends Over- seas so enjoy and look forward to Canadian mail. Mt. Brydges Branch in the District of West Middlesex and the London Area has this year promoted the formation of and is spon« soring four of these clubs for girls. To give the clubs :1 good start the Senior Branch donated $50.00 to assist with the finances nec- essary for the operation of the clubs. The girls are under the leadership of Mrs. Charles Bol- ton. Mrs. Graham Bolton. Mrs. Donald Mc- Gugan. Mrs. Donald McLean. Mrs. Donald Stuart and Mrs. Jack Trott. They are com« posed of forty-four girls. For many of these girls this is their first club and their enthusiasm is heart-warming. Great credit must be paid to Mrs. James Pilkington, president of the Mt. Brydges Branch for her interest and efforts in the form- ing of these clubs. For a Memorial Service OR A DISTRICT Annual Meeting in F North Middlesex. Mrs. Stanley Mollard of Cloverdale branch wrote this “In Memoriam" to be read at the memorial service for former members who had died dur- ing the year. “I scan the room but do not see your face For you who came with gladness in your heart To other meetings â€" will not come again. God needed you, and so He called you home. We bow our heads. The Master’s will be done!
