Scholarships EGINNING this year the Canadian Naâ€" B tional Exhibition will award annually te-n scholarships of $750 each, one ‘to go to each province in the Dominion to assmt young Canadians in the study of home economics, agriculture and veterinary science. Each province may select a boy or a girl for this award each year, the selection to be respon- sibility of the provincial Department of Agri- culture. The schools eligible for the scholar- ships are a School of Home Economics, a recognized College of Agriculture or a Veterâ€" inary College leading to a degree or a School of Agriculture leading to a diploma. The candidate must be at least seventeen years of age and must have completed at least two years in 4â€"H Club work. Candidates must also have qualities of leadership and must have shown an interest in community activities. This year the award for Ontario went to Julia Lane of Barrie Island. Manitoulin. Julia is the eldest of a fairly large family in a rural comâ€" munity. She has completed eight 4â€"H Homeâ€" making Club units in Foods and Clothing, has had three years In a Garden Club and this past year has acted as a Garden Club leader. She sings in the church choir, teaches the primary class in Sunday School and has been president of her Church Young People's group. Julia has just passed her Senior Matriculation ex- amination with a high standing. For some time she has had her heart set on taking the degree course at Macdonald Instituteâ€"now this scholarship makes it possible. The Women's Institutes continue to award scholarships to girls of a high record in 4-H Homemaking Club work.
