Philipsville WI LEFT: After sampling an assortment of cheeses, Philipsville WI Members and guests gathered for a lovely photo, On September 8, 2011, Philipsville Women’s Institute in Leeds District (Kingston Area) held a ROSE Session at Forfar Community Hall with 9 WI Members and 7 guests in attendance. The guest speaker was Doug Bond, a local resident and historian, whose topic was "The Local Histow and Art of Cheese Making”. He educated the group on how and when cheese making began and, more specifically, how it got started in the local area. He showed many photographs of cheese factories located in and around Forfar. Following his presentation, Doug answered many questions while the group sampled a variety of cheeses. The afternoon provided everyone with knowledge on cheese making, cheese tasting, and good friendship! Bailieboro WI In addition to the many ROSE Sessions held throughout the year, Bailieboro WI (Central Area) presented "Lunch and Learn” â€" a special ROSE Session held in March with 54 Members and guests attending a delicious luncheon. Dorothy Duncan was invited to talk about the three books she has written on the Histow of Canadian Food, all published by Dundern Press, Toronto. Included in her interesting presentation was the sampling of foods that would have been prepared by pioneer families. The Roll Call was to name a product your grandmother would be surprised to find in our supermarket. The Motto was, "A great oak is a nut that held its ground". Poverty rates in the City of Thunder Bay are on the rise, and Aaron discussed steps that the city has taken to solve this problem. This ROSE Session was held on behalf of Thunder Bay District, with Branches and the general public invited to attend.
