Stormontâ€"Dundas District Women‘s Institute (Eastern Area) won first prize for their float in the 144th Stormont County Fair on September 3, 2011. The fair theme, Welcome to the Future, was captured by having Members‘ grandchildren â€" future WI Members â€" walk with a banner ahead of the float. The District gives bursaries, so Rianna Greig, granddaughter of Florence Hoople, dressed in a cap and gown. The float, pulled by WI husband Mernie Short, carried WI Members holding a meeting around the table, singing as they passed through the streets of Newington to the fair grandstand. Solway WI Dedicates Monument to Community The Members of Solway Women’s Institute (Greyâ€"Bruce Area) paid tribute to the pioneers ofthe Solway area by dedicating a cairn with a bronze plaque to the community. This gesture was made in honour of the Branch’s 60th Anniversary. At the unveiling, charter Member, Hazel Caslick, gave a brief history ofthe area. Hazel, along with seven women from the area, founded the Institute in 1951 for fellowship and service to the community. Castleford WI Visits Waba Museum Members of Castleford WI of Renfrew South District (Eastern Area) decided to celebrate the 98th Anniversary of their Branch with a tour of the McNab Township Waba Museum in White Lake. Members and guests were delighted with the displays in the Museum and flower gardens. A delicious picnic lunch was enjoyed under the shade ofthe trees, along with two Members’ daughters and a granddaughter who works at the Museum.
