Tweedsmuir Report ~ By Tweedsmuir Coordinator, Irene Robillard The digitizing project continues to be slow as the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) has not yet received further grants. Digitizing did occur in Bruce County District in the fall. Twentyâ€"five Branches were completed, representing about half their books and about 30,000 pages. The winter months will see these books being prepared for the eâ€"library, as well as the Home & Countw newsletters which were digitized in June. In the meantime, the collections digitized in 2011 continue to be reviewed in preparation for their inclusion in the OGS eâ€"Library. Forthe Home & Countw newsletters, it appears that an everyâ€"name index is the best approach to allow researchers to find names. Ifanyone is interested in helping out with the indexing, please contact me. OGS notified me that they had a dozen books originating from the WI in their current library and wanted permission to put them in their eâ€"library. Knowing there are many more historical bookscreated by Membersthroughoutthe province, an addendum to the agreement with OGS was signed to allow WI Branches to put any published historical books in the OGS eâ€"library. Besides increasing public awareness of WI accomplishments in historical research, this is an opportunity to receive some funds, especially for older books that are now out of print. Participation is voluntary, with the WI level that produced the book receiving a portion of the proceeds. Hopefully, by the time you read this article, a draft of the Tweedsmuir Manual will be on the website for your review and use. Please take time to look at it. Feedback is much appreciated. A New Opportunity for your Published Books Has your Branch or District published a book on the history of your community? If so, the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) is vew interested in digitizing your book and putting it in their eâ€"library. Involvement is voluntary, with the WI level receiving 40% of the proceeds for creating the book, the OGS receiving 40% to contribute to the cost of operating the e-library, and 20% to the holding organization, for maintaining the book. In most cases,this would not be applicable, so this portion would go to FWIO to help cover costs of administration. Participation is easy. Contact the Provincial Office to complete a form. You then ship the book to 065, who will digitize and return your book. You will also receive a digitized copy ofthe book. This is a great way to increase public awareness of WI accomplishments in historical research. This is an especially good opportunity to receive some funds for older books that are now out of print without having to republish the book. FWIO’s New Service! A One-Stop Spot for Publishing Books and CDs Is your Branch, District, or Area thinking of publishing a book or creating a CD or DVD.7 The FWIO Provincial Office is eager and willing to provide advice and service to guide you through the publishing process: a oneâ€"stop spot for all of your needs. In addition to advice and guidance, they will obtain any necessary items, such as an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) and a Bar Code (for the back of the book for book stores). After publication, they can help you market the book. As well, they will register your publication at Access Copyright, which will provide a bit of annual income to your organization.
