CELEBRATING {100% ,, ANNIVERSARIESI LEFT: Earlier this year, Members of Windermere WI gathered for a special photo to commemorate their Branch’s 700 years. Windermere WI On October 11, 2011, a beautiful autumn afternoon, the Members of Windermere WI (Northern Area) gathered in the Community Centre for a Tea Party to celebrate 100 memorable years â€" exactly 100 years to the day their Branch was founded. Other WI Branchesjoined them, along with members from the community. Branch President, Darlene Poirier, welcomed FWIO President, Carol Innes, who pinned a 100th Anniversary pin on each Member and presented a certificate congratulating Windermere WI on their 100th Anniversary. Among invited guests were Deputy Mayor of the Township of Muskoka Lakes, Allen Edwards, and Councillors, Gault McTaggart and Don Furniss. Allen presented two certificates,onefromtheTownship and one from the District of Muskoka, congratulating the Branch on their accomplishment. Violet Hill WI The 100th Anniversary of Violet Hill Women’s Institute (Central Area) was celebrated in style on June I, 2011 at the Dufferin County Museum and Archives. Fifty guests along with past Members joined the current six Members for a buffet lunch, an anniversary cake and musical entertainment by the Shelburne Fiddlers. Violet Hill WI began in June 1911 with 4 Members and grew to 32 Members by the very next month. The Branch continues to help where needed in the community by supporting groups and projects such as the Shelburne Fall Fair â€" Children’s Section, Dufferin Oaks Tuck Shop, and Primrose School Grade 8 Scholarships. This is all done under the leadership of President Jean Cameron, a 52 year Member. Erland Lee Award of Appreciation This prestigious award is presented by the Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada to a man who most exemplifies those qualities of Erland Lee, which led to the founding ofthe Women’s Institute, an organization that spread across Canada and grew to include millions of women worldwide. Copies of the nomination forms are available from the FWIO Provincial Office. A $15 cheque payable to FWIO must accompany the nomination form. Please include the nominee’s name, address and telephone number. Two nominees will be selected and forwarded to FWIC. All nominations must reach the FWIO Provincial Office by February 15th each year. Cold Springs WI (Trent Valley Area) was very pleased to present Mr. John Beedham with the Erland Lee Award of Appreciation at their District Annual Meeting in May. Branch Members are very grateful for John’s support and pleased that he is a recipient of this very special award from FWIC.
