Women’s Institute Celebrate: 1 14 On Februan/ 19, 2011, Women’s Institute celebrated its 114th anniversaw. To commemorate the occasion, WI Branches across Ontario were asked by FWIO President, Carol Innes, to stop and have a cup of tea at 3pm and spend some time thinking about WI. Many Branches across the province participated by hosting tea parties and here are just a few celebrations that took place: North Russell WI North Russell WI cookies and cakes. (Eastern Area) gathered at the home of Mona Saunders and enjoyed different teas and coffee with delicious homemade A candle was lit in memon/ of Adelaide Hoodless and Navan WI In recognition ofthe founding Members, Navan WI (Eastern Area) got together at the home of Catherine Hyde. Many varieties of tea were served along with tasty homemade treats. A Navan WI flag from many years ago was given to the Branch by fellow Member, Helen Burns, who was unable to attend. Verna Cotton brought along the Branch’s Tweedsmuir History Book and interesting photos from previous WI celebrations. Juanita Vetter read stories about Adelaide Hoodless and the first meetings of the Women’s Institute. Vickers Gardens WI Vickers Gardens WI (Northwestern Area) hosted a "Come and Go” tea party which was also a ROSE Session! A media release was circulated to all media in the Thunder Bay area and the community was invited to attend. The Branch had a WI information table, a Heart Health information table and also showed a video of Adelaide Hoodless. In total, 45 people attended this educational celebration! Waters WI The Members of Waters WI (North Central Area) dressed in fun hats and enjoyed fancy sandwiches and cake at their anniversary tea party!
