Tweedsmuir Report ~ By Tweedsmuir Coordinator, Irene Robillard Although the intent of a Tweedsmuir Community History Collection is to share information and be made available to the public, privacy concerns must be considered. Guidelines have been drafted, with decisions being made on the contents of each book, rather than when the book was created or completed. Contents which should not be a privacy issue are: - Items over 50 years old (1961 in 2011). - Items that were widely publicized, such as newspaper clippings. Contents which should be considered private are: - Biographies while the person is living and for 20 years from date ofdeath. Example: an officer’s profile, a 'grandmother’s legacy,’ or a biography of a member of the community. Addresses, phone numbers and other contact information of living people. Birth and marriage dates of living people. Membership lists less than 50 years old. Any other item the Branch or District feels should remain private. All closedTweedsmuirvolumesarebeingdigitized forpreservation reasons but none will be put in the 065 eâ€"library until they have been reviewed for privacy. A few lines, a full page, or a full book can be excluded from the eâ€"library. This review is much easier than it sounds. Of the first 20 books reviewed (from 7 Branches), less than 20 private items were found. Most of these were a few lines here and there, such as birth dates of children of current owners of a farm. It should be noted that privacy needs to be considered when creating yourTweedsmuir books, as it does notjust apply to items being digitized. But that is a subject for another day. Membership Message ~ By Membership Coordinator, Debbie Bauer At the AGM in Barrie, I was pleased to have been elected to the position of Membership Coordinator for FWIO, a position I was appointed to last year. On January Ist, I sent a letter to each Area President and when applicable, to Area Membership Coordinators. In that letter, I have offered workshops for April or September to Areas willing to pay my mileage and when necessaw, put me up for the night. I have been working hard developing this workshop and hope to meet many ofyou as I bring this 'forwardâ€" thinking’, fresh approach on 'who, why and how’ to each Area. Due to extremely nasty weather and a conflicting commitment, my time spent at the Total Woman Show held at Bingemans in Kitchener, was significantly shortened. It was a fabulous show however, and exactlythe type of escapeâ€"based day for busy women we need to frequent. We need to widen our scope and visibility at every opportunity at this and othertypes of events. I trust we can find more worthwhile events to reach those women who are often isolated, in need of support or those hungw for new experiences and education the WI can offer. As the WI has enriched our own lives, it would do the same for most other women also. Many ofyou have vew stimulating and interesting programming, but for those who have found themselves repeating the same old thing, in the same old order, I offer a challenge to each Area Conference or District Annual and Branch. Offer a day women would pay to attend. You are asking busy women to give up a whole day â€" make it something they will have to tell others about. That vew well may be the first step toward enticing a new Member and please let me know of your successes.
