Tweedsmuir Report ~ By Tweedsmuir Coordinator, Irene Robillard Digitizing Project Update The digitizing project is progressing, butslowerthan expected. The complete set of Home and Country newsletters, from 1933 to present, were digitized in June. This will save digitizing them multiple times as part of many Branch collections. Unfortunately, the Ontario Genealogical Society (065) was unsuccessful in receiving an expected grant. This has stalled the project, while further grant applications are submitted. Hopefully, digitizing will start again in the fall. In the meantime, the collections already digitized continue to be reviewed for privacy concerns in preparation for their inclusion in the 065 eâ€"library. If you know of a Tweedsmuir Collection that has already been scanned but is not on the internet, please contact me. They can be added to the 065 eâ€"library as soon as they are reviewed for privacy. Four were found in Eastern Area. It has been noticed that there are some photos without the people identified. There are also many undated newspaper clippings. Please take time to review your books to make them as complete as possible. Future readers will thank you. It is recommended that the pages be numbered when the volume is closed. A table of contents or an index is also worthwhile. Revisions to the Tweedsmuir Manual have begun. Plans are underway to have the preliminary draft available through the FWIO website in 2012. This will allow Members to provide feedback and be more involved. Membership Message ~ By Membership Coordinator, Debbie Bauer My husband and I attended Mar WI’s (Greyâ€" Bruce Area) 20th Annual Fish Dinner. It was great to meet President Susan White and her husband Roger the following day. In April, the Provincial Board approved the Women’s Institute Iris Membership Initiative. Those bringing new Members into WI, as well as the new Member, will have the opportunity to purchase the new breed at a huge reduction. The future of this program, and perhaps even our organization, is dependent upon integrity and honesty where entitlement ofthe new iris is concerned. Full details will be available in the Member’s Login section of the FWIO website, under "Projects, Challenges and Competitions”. We owe a debt to McMillen’s Iris Garden of Norwich, Ontario for the tangible show of confidence in us all. Some of the membership workshops scheduled will be videoed in an effort to make this resource available to more remote (and costâ€"deterrent) locations. I have worked hard developing this workshop for you, so please take advantage. I received a poster and bookmarks from Renfrew North District. They were fresh and vibrant, just the right message to get out in an effort to draw more Members. We all want new Members, but just saying it doesn’t make it so. You have to follow through. Hang the poster, book the workshop, and invite the neighbour. That’s how it works.
