COFFEW WOMEN OF THE WORLD Women of the world, you have the power - ‘ To change our world hour by hour. A project here, a project there And things improve most everywhere. You see little things that sap one’s joy Like the need for water or a children’s toy. This is where you take your aim, Quality of life, for all, the same. For yourselves you need to laugh and grin So the stress of life doesn’t do you in. As you work for others, add some play, And that will keep the stress at bay. Having fun as you change the earth Should be a cause for mutual mirth. Laugh with each other the whole world wide And you will feel thejoy inside. It’s woman power you employ To bring so many so much joy. For women and children with much to face, You make the world a better place. The above poem was read at the 2010 ACWW Triennial Conference in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Famous Five On October 18, 1929, the women who would come to be known as the "Famous Five,” changed history when they won the Persons Case. Since then, women have been considered 'persons’ and thus have the right to be appointed to the Senate. To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Famous Five changing history, the Senate voted to appoint these extraordinary women honourary senators â€" the only Canadians ‘ to be given this recognition. In early June, a statue of the Famous Five was unveiled at the Manitoba Legislature in Winnipeg. After visiting the statue with her family shortly after the unveiling, WI Member Mary Janes (pictured) says, "The statue is very lifelike. One would like to pick up the hat from the ground, or talktothe women about the document they are signing.” “ ngvfijm‘““ ‘LmLQ 5
