some- very serious charges against Major Ross late Canadian Scouts I feel that in justice to him I must write to inform the public of Canada that the statements in are false from beginning to end No warrant has ever been in the hands the African Constabulary for the arrest of Major Ross nor any complaint been made against him He has never been forced to fly from the Transvaal to Portuguese or any other territory nor has he left Transvaal since the war end ed- is living in the distrht of the northern Trans vaal division of the South African Constabulary which is under my command has a store at Louis Ttech- ardt and lives on and works Lis bon farm thirty miles from there The Major has been known to me ever since when he joined the Northwest Mounted Police in which corps he was distinguish for his courage on field and his sound sense and moral behavior under all circumstances I have seen a great deal of him out here bohh during the war and since peace was pro claimed have met officers who commanded the brigade of which his regiment formed a part and many of Lord Kitcheners staff all of whom spoke in the highest terms of him I have ascertained name of the writer of the attack in question and know him well He owes Major Ross a debt of gratitude for kind treatment and has nothing but kindness from the Canadians out including myself He came out with letters from Canada and wished to see service- I him to the Major who got a Lieutenants com- for him and since peace was proclaimed he has enjoyed a good position through same auspices and partly because he is a Canadian Tbe
