History of Maplehurst Farm - 1837 - 1956. Denis O'Connor came from Cork, Ireland in 1832 - settling on Lot 1, Con 3, in 1837. He married Mary O'Leary who died a young woman leaving a daughter who became, Mother Mary Magdelen of Loretto Community, Toronto, and a son, Denis, who joined the Congregation of St. Basil, later founding Assumption College, Windsor, consecrated Bishop of London, and later Archbishop of Toronto. Soon after the death of his first wife, Denis Sr. married Bridget Callaghan of Albion Township, and raised seven daughters and three sons. They were, Mother Mary Magdelena, Mother Mary Evangelista, Mother Mary of the Angels, all of Loretto Community, and Sister Dionysia of St. Joseph's Community, Peterborough, Mrs. Ellen Quarry, Misses Elizabeth and Theresa, John A. George and William. George continued on the homestead, now "Maplehurst Farm", his family of six included, Right Rev. Denis O'Connor, Pastor of St. John's Parish, Toronto, and Right Rev. John, Pastor of St. Helen's Parish, Toronto, Dr. G. A. O'Connor, Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Kathleen Macdonnell, Ajax, Ont., Mrs. Rose Caitio, Detroit, Mich., while Arthur continued to farm, with his sons Morgan and Maurice. Other members of this family are, Marguerite, Patricia, Helen, Geraldine, Moira, Denis, Terence and Sgt. Pilot George, killed in active service, 1945.
