2 The cornerstone of the new St. Andrews Presbyterian Church was laid on July 4th, 1949 by Walter C. Thompson, K.C., M.P. and the Dedication Ceremonies were held on December 8th, Since that time there has been no looking back, the membership has steadily increased so that in a few short years St. Andrews has become a self-supporting charge. In a few years the old second-hand pews were discarded and the seating in the Sanctuary was replaced with comfortable new pews, and a centre aisle created, making it possible for a choir Processional and adding much to the Service of Worship. Early in the Spring of 1970 work was commenced on what had been for many years a dream of the St. Andrews congregation, the erection of a Christian Education Building. The basement of the church had become inadequate, especially for Church School purposes, not to mention banquets and other social activities. The new Christian Education Building contains facilities for the Church School and other activities associated with the work of the congregation. There are four individual classrooms, a Church parlor, the Minister's Study, a well equipped kitchen, wash rooms and the heating plant. The cornerstone was laid on Sunday, October 25th, 1970. St. Andrews over the years has been most fortunate in the generosity of its members and friends, from the time of the building and furnishing of the church until the present day, in the providing of gifts and memorials to be used for and in the beautification of the Sanctuary and Church Worship. The list is imposing and too long to be related in its entirety, so we will mention only a few as they come to mind: the Communion Table, the Pulpit Bible, the Baptismal Font, the Communion and the Offering Plates, the Chairs, the Furnishings in the Christian Education Building in the Minister's Study and the Church Parlor, the new and beautiful lighting fixtures and finally the combined gifts of so many in providing sufficient copies of the new hymn book for the whole congregation. "I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the house of the Lord." The Minister is the Rev. Frank Conkey, M.A. (1974) Leslie M. Morley.
