Your tax dollar may be broken down as follows in the Dunbarton area: Education - 52.8 % County - 12.9 % Roads - 10.68 % Police - 10.12 % General & Government - 5.2 % Garbage - 3.68 % Fire - 2.87 % Welfare - 1.75 % In 1946 the Province set up a Department of PLANNING, which permitted local Municipalities to organize their own Planning Boards, and permitted them to exercise certain authority over the use of land. In 1948 this Township appointed menbers to such a Board, whose duties are to plan the future development of the Township. It has been agreed that with costs to the taxpayer of $500.00 per child for secondary schooling, and $l00.00 to $150.00 per pupil for primary education, we would not permit large scale "modest"homes to be built until sufficient industry be secured to offset the service costs. Consequently the Board has not approved any new sub-divisions for the past five years where there is not municipal water, but do permit the old sub-divisions to be built up under certain restrictions. The minumum sized lot permitted with municipal water is 7,500 square feet with a 60 foot frontage and where there is no municipal water, the lots are required to be 15,000 square feet with 75 foot frontages with reservations. Should an owner wish to divide his property and sell less than 10 acres, he must first get a "consent" from the Board. The Board meet monthly or more, to plan restrictive By-laws, zoning, etc. However, all zoning By-laws and sub-division plans are subject to Metro Toronto approval.
